A cannabinoid is a chemical compound that acts on receptors in cells that can alter the neurotransmitter release in the brain. This is done by imitating compounds in our bodies known as endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids help to relieve a variety of symptoms such as pain, anxiety, inflammation and nausea. Because our bodies are an endocannabinoid system the cannabinoids from the cannabis sativa plant can work their magic by imitating compounds in our systems and help to activate and maintain internal stability and overall health.
The cannabinoids can bind to receptor sites in our bodies. CB-1 (Receptors in the brain) and CB-2 (Receptors in our body). Cannabinoids can have different effects, depending on which receptors they bind to. There are at least 113 different cannabinoids that have been isolated in the cannabis plant.
